This platformer game I made in Stencyl places you in a city overun by mutated creatures, the cause not yet known. Being one of those who stayed, you goal is to make your city safe again by clearing the monsters out.

The level takes place in two destroyed buildings, with onimous clouds forming a vortex above. This is meant to hint at what exactly happened to the city you are in and also set the direness of the situation you are in. Since the theme of the game also included urban fantasy I wanted to incoporate elements of that through the scene with the vortex that could suggest the works of magic that might have caused this.

To add to the severity of this event the some of the floor tiles the player steps on will break, creating new paths for the player to reach their goal and also give players the sense of damage brought upon the city by this unknown force.

The map also have checkpoints set up where players can save their game, this was meant to signify the player's progress in making the area safer, a sort of beacon of hope. The floating platform provide some challenge to the player's skill and again reinforces the idea of magic for the urban fantasy theme.

The enemies in the game also contributed in terms of setting the theme and an idea of what is going on. The abnormal size and visible spikes give players an indication of the severity and convey that things indeed gone wrong.

An enlarged image of one of the enemies, the potted plant mimic. It remains disguised like the potted plant props in the game, and only shoots spikes when in contact with a player. This is one of the elements of fantasy I taken into this game with partial reference to Dark Souls.

The player's character also is in line with the urban fantasy theme including the character's ability to use a ranged fireball attack, suggesting the usage of magic.

The game itself could have more improvements but in it's current state I believe the concept and setting is set alright.
